Aranda™ Dianella is a very compact plant with deep blue flowers

Aranda™ Dianella is a very compact plant with deep blue flowers

Aranda™ Dianella caerulea 'DC150' PBR

Aranda™ Dianella  is a great little green Dianella caerulea. It flowers well, and is super tough. If you need a small Dianella for borders or planted close together as a low ground cover, Aranda™ Dianella  fits the bill perfectly.  It is great for humid areas, and did well in recent roof top garden trials.

Like all Dianella it prefers reasonable nutrients, so if the soil is poor, a slow release application of 8 to 9 month slow release fertiliser is essential. Aranda™ Dianella works well in colder regions like Victoria, but it is very much at home in Humid Queensland.

If Aranda™ Dianella starts to get a little untidy, just cut it back hard like this in spring or Autumn, leaving a few leaves out the side to help it reshoot. No other super compact Dianella caerulea is as tough or as beautiful as Aranda™ Dianella.

Lucia™ Dianella caerulea 'DC101' PBR

Lucia™ is a spreading form of Dianella caerulea. So if you need a drought tolerant plant that gets thick and outcompetes weeds well, Lucia™ Dianella is it. It makes a wonderful roadside plant, or erosion control plant, and its masses of mulberry coloured flowers make it great for any garden.

It is very humidity tolerant, yet can cope with frosts down to Minus 7 degrees Celcius. It can tolerate a wide array of soil types, but performs better in soils of at least reasonable quality. In general soils it will grow to a smaller height (just under knee high) but in really good soils it will reach 50 to 60 cm high. It’s a great plant for coastal windy areas, and also for hot dry or humid inland areas. Lucia™ Dianella is just a no fuss, easy care reliable plant.

Just cut it back to the ground in Spring or Autumn.

Little Jess™ Dianella is the most Reliable and biggest selling Dianella in Australia. Little Jess™ Dianella has excellent humidity tolerance, and good cold tolerance.

Little Jess™ Dianella is Great for all over Australia. It remains evergreen in most regions, except in really cold parts like Canberra where it may discolour in winter. Dianella caerulea is known as one of the most drought tolerant, hardy Flax Lilies. Underground rhizomes ensure excellent cold survival. Little Jess™ Dianella has very short, compact canes and it will not fall over like common Dianella caerulea which generally have long canes. Little Jess™ Dianella – in poor to normal soils won’t get very big. In really good soils it will get higher, but a prune every few years soon fixes that.
