Slim™ - Native Shrubs and Groundcovers Range

Slim™ has a unique narrow growth habit perfect for tight planting areas. It has a nice display of classic red bottle brush flowers in spring and autumn.

Slim™ will grow approximately 3m tall x 1.3m wide, but it can be pruned down to 1.5m high and as thin as 60cm

Uses

Perfect for tight planting areas including thin garden beds, along fence lines or along walls.

Position

Requires full sun to part shade and works in most soil types. It tolerates extended dry periods and moderate to heavy frost.

Care

Water well until established and prune to shape or prune after flowering. A slow release fertiliser in late winter, early spring will help with flowering.

Description

Macarthur™ was bred from Captain Cook and Little John, providing a more compact, better flowering Callistemon. It has a tidy, bushy growth habit.

Macarthur™ will reach approximately 1.8m high x 1.5 m wide. It responds well to pruning.

Uses

Great as a medium sized shrub in specimen or group plantings.

Position

It grows best in full sun, but can work in part shade. Macarthur works in most soil conditions and has good frost and drought tolerance.

Care

Water well until established and prune after flowering. In sandy soils or very dry climates, top-up watering is reccommended in the summer months.

Description

Ozbreed Aussie Box® is a tough, native alternative to exotic box plants such as English Box and Japanese Box. Selected for its tight, compact growth habit and it’s ability to grow and be clipped as a box hedge or low formal hedge. As it has a natural ball shape you can also leave it without pruning.

It’s much more drought tolerant than the exotic box plants, though it will need slightly more pruning to keep it in a box shape. Aussie Box grows to approximately 60cm x 60cm when unpruned.

Uses

Great for hedges, borders, containers and mass plantings.

Description

Aussie Rambler is a tough, giant flowering Pig Face that tolerates heavier soils better than the common form. It’s also more frost tolerant and can tolerate more moisture.

This low growing ground cover reaches 20cm tall x 2 metres wide. Flowering in spring and autumn, Aussie Rambler, displays giant pink flowers at an average size of 10cm with some flowers even getting up to 14cm wide! In the cooler months, or in certain conditions, flowers will be smaller.

Uses

A ground cover great for rockeries, general mass plantings, low maintenance gardens, coastal roadside plantings, or as a sand dune stabiliser. Suitable for coastal and inland plantings.

Position

Full sun to light shade. Works in most soil types.

Care

Water as required until established. Aussie Rambler can generally live off natural rainfall once established. Avoid prolonged wet feet.

Acmena smithii Red Head is an attractive large shrub/small tree with lush glossy, rounded, broad, deep green foliage. It has a flush of brilliant red new autumn growth maturing to glossy dark green.

Growth and Uses: The growth of Red Head becomes more dense with each pruning, but unlike many Acmena’s, not over dense, which is why it’s so much tougher. Acmena’s are an excellent choice for containers, courtyards, roof top gardens or clipped as a standard hedge, with an exceptional pot life. Red Head™ can be hedged from approx 1.5m high, or alternatively, can be grown clear-trunked as an attractive small tree ideal for urban plantings reaching an ultimate height of approximately 6m.

Pleaching: Red Head is ideal for pleaching. Pleaching is a technique that may be used to train trees into a raised hedge, a gap is pruned from the ground often so you can walk under it. With a flush of brilliant red new autumn growth maturing to glossy dark green, Acmena Red Head is perfect for pleaching to achieve a most elegant, formal look, or for a standard formal hedge. It is a compact small tree suitable for civic plantings and urban backyards.

Flowers: Clusters of very small white flowers are followed by bright purple edible berries. Red Head will be an excellent contrasting plant to use with Acmena Sublime™.

Hardiness: As well as boasting good looks, Red Head is one of the hardiest Australian native Lilly Pillies, being highly borer and psyllid resistant, wind and cold tolerant to -5 degrees and is a fire retardant species. It is an easy, care-free landscape tree.

Care: Well drained soil with some organic matter and regular fertilising will ensure good performance in the garden.
