New Nandinas and Little Ruby™ Alternanthera are the hottest new landscape plants. That’s because they have red foliage for most of the year.
Little Ruby™ Alternanthera has become so popular because it is low growing, has stunning purple foliage, and copes better with cold than the common form.
Obsession™ Nandina is red for 9 to 12 months of the year. Its new growth is red not green. In summer it is very red. Keeps a dense upright growth habit and does not spread with age. The cultivar name ‘SEIKA’ means ‘sacred fire’ in Japanese and was given this name because of the colour of the new growth.
Flirt™ Nandina is a ground cover Nandina that is red in Spring Summer and Autumn, but not in winter, unless you live in a very cold place. It is very drought, humidity and cold tolerant, growing well all over Australia. Research has shown this variety is a safe choice around bushland as it will not spread from seed.
Blush™ Nandina is red in Autumn and Winter, with some red new growth in Summer. Perfect height of 60–70cm to use for fences, borders or hedging. In the winter months, Blush™ Nandina will turn red all over. Very drought, humidity and cold tolerant, growing well all over Australia. A safe choice around bushland, as it will not spread from seed.
These three plants are revolutionising the way we see Nandinas. They provide red foliage when other Nandina varieties are green. Each plant is unique in its own way and has something different to bring to the table.

The Flirt™ plant is a ground cover option that is the opposite of other Nandinas. While most Nandinas are red in winter and not the rest of the year, Flirt™ Nandina gets red in spring, summer and autumn, but not in winter. It reaches 30-40 centimetres high and 40-50 centimetres wide.
Blush™ Nandina has cleaner red foliage and is red for 9 months of the year. It is a medium dwarf shrub that produces red new growth in spring and autumn, with a full flush of red in winter. Blush™ Nandina gets 60-70cm high and wide. Obsession™ Nandina is perhaps the most impressive of the three plants mentioned here and is set to replace Gulf Stream.
This dwarf shrub reaches the same height as Blush™ Nandina and gets red foliage all year round; it has red new growth in spring, autumn and summer with a full flush of red in winter. These incredible Nandina varieties are changing the face of the entire Nandina market in Australia. When customers walk around retail nurseries to see red Nandinas in summer, they are amazed!

Nandinas are widely used in the landscape because they require so little maintenance, and because in the cooler months they have beautiful red foliage. Well Nandina just got a whole lot better. The Blush™ Nandina plant, for one thing is red for longer in autumn and winter. It is also a deeper red. What really sets it apart from Nandina domestica Nana,) is its more compact size and its red new growth in the warm months.
Blush™ Nandina actually shoots red new growth in spring, summer and autumn and like other Nandina, is extremely drought and frost tolerant, and loves humidity. For winter cold climates, Blush™ Nandina is super red, and for the first time for a Nandina, in hot humid climates that do not get much of a winter, Blush’s red new growth will give you splashes of red foliage even in summer.
